Civil right struggle remembered

Destination Freedom is a series by Denver playwright Donnie Betts. They are currently being performed at the Crossroads Theater in Denver.

On Thursday April 8th, KGNU did a live radio simulcast of “Memoirs of a Harvard Guy,” based on the book of the same name by John Perdew. Perdew, originally from Denver, left Harvard as a student in the 1960s to work with the Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee or SNCC in Georgia, to fight for civil rights. SNCC is celebrating its 50th anniversary next week in North Carolina and Perdew will be attending that event with other leaders of the civil rights movement. But this week, he is in Denver for the Destination Freedom Series. KGNU’s Maeve Conran spoke with John Perdew April 8, 2010, about his experiences in the civil rights movement and asked him what has changed in the 50 years since the founding of SNCC.
